Jeff Randall

Jeff Randall has been recognized as one of the top trial lawyers in California and the United States by publications including The American Lawyer, Law360, Entrepreneur magazine, and the Daily Journal. He has over two decades of experience representing major technology companies and other enterprises in their most significant patent and IP disputes, often involving multi-billion dollar damages claims.

He has won more than 30 jury trials during his career, having represented technology heavyweights including Apple Inc., Intel Corp., Dell Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc., Nvidia Corp. Qualcomm Inc., and others. He served as trial counsel for eBay in the case that culminated in the unanimous U.S. Supreme Court decision in eBay adv. MercExchange, which changed the standard for obtaining injunctive relief in patent cases. Mr. Randall served as Global Co-chair of Intellectual Property at Paul Hastings, overseeing the firm’s 100-plus lawyer IP practice. He led the Paul Hastings team defending a South Korean industrial conglomerate in one of the largest and most complicated criminal and civil trade secret cases ever, lasting six years and including jury trial and multiple appeals in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Mr. Randall was recruited to K&L Gates, where he was made a firm-wide Practice Area Leader for the Intellectual Property Practice. His colleague, fellow Paul Hastings IP litigation partner Brian Ankenbrandt, joined Mr. Randall within a month of his arrival.

Kenneth E. Jenkins

Dr. Jenkins works closely with corporations and research institutions in the health care, life science, and energy technology industries to develop patent claiming and filing strategies, procure patents on cornerstone technologies, and strategically manage patent portfolios to maximize investments. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemisty at the University of Colorado. Dr. Terri Shieh-Newton is a biotechnology patent partner who has worked with a variety of organizations well known in the life science field, including Genentech, Genencor-DuPont, Celgene, Dynavax Techonologies, the University of California, Stanford University and the Buck Institute for Aging. She has expertise with technologies including stem cells, regenerative medicine, immunology, antibodies, cancer immunotherapy, virology vaccines and adjuvants, diagnostics, and assays for personalized treatment of cancer, immunological diseases such as HIV, autoimmune diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease. Ms. Caulfield was the managing partner of Dewey & LeBoeuf's Silicon Valley office at the time of the move. She had achieved legendary status within the Silcon Valley patent litigation community for her extremely high skill level and unprecedented range of experience. Ms. Caulfield had previously served in several prestigious roles: as general counsel of Affymetrix, in leadership positions within the litigation practices of Latham & Watkins and Orrick, and as a federal judge. Patent litigators open Silicon Valley office for Goodwin Procter

Goodwin Procter opened its new Silicon Valley office with a group of patent litigation partners from IP boutique Townsend and Townsend and Crew, including Byron Cooper, Greg Bishop, April Abele, and Thomas Fitzpatrick. These partners were critical to the opening of the office (two corporate partners from Wilson Sonsini and Latham & Watkins joined the firm independently to round out the office). The Townsend partners have handled numerous patent infringement lawsuits in federal district courts nationally, as well as cases brought before the International Trade Commission. Dale Hunt

James Chapman opens Silicon Valley office for Nixon Peabody

Mr. Chapman is a corporate partner specializing in finance, M&A and international transactions for startup and emerging growth technology companies. To launch the Silicon Valley office of Nixon Peabody, he brought a group of three other corporate attorneys specializing in venture capital and early-stage technology companies, and a labor and employment attorney. Mr. Chapman was one of the founders of the Silicon Valley Law Group (which had grown to 16 attorneys at the time of his departure) and was the former chair of that firm's corporate securities practice. Washington, DC firm joins Davis Wright Tremaine

Cole, Raywid & Braverman, a 35-attorney communications and Internet law boutique based in Washington, DC, was aquired by Davis Wright Tremaine. The acquisition more than doubled Davis Wright's footprint in the nation's capital, and expanded the firm's communications, media and technology practice group to 120 lawyers. Among other drivers for the deal, Davis Wright found the firm's FCC regulatory practice very appealing. Cole, Raywid was attracted by Davis Wright's broader range of practices and client base including the Los Angeles Times, Warner Brothers, New York Times Company, Conde Nast Publications, and Paramount Pictures.

Charles Berman and Christopher Darrow

Charles Berman and Christopher Darrow were recruited to lead the West Coast intellectual property practice for Greenberg Traurig. At the time of their move, the two partners had more than 45 years of combined experience. Oppenheimer group launches LA patent practice for McDermott Will

McDermott Will & Emery started its Los Angeles patent litigation and prosecution practice by recruiting a group of five intellectual property partners from Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly: Mark Wine, Marc Brown, Charles Rosenberg, Cynthia Lock, and Craig Gelfound. Mr. Wine is a trial lawyer with extensive patent litigation experience who served on Oppenheimer's policy committee and had been with the firm since the start of his career more than 25 years earlier. Mr. Brown is highly regarded for his extensive expertise in procurement, evaluation, and enforcement of high technology patents, including his management of one of the largest patent infringement lawsuits ever filed. He had been the managing partner of Oppenheimer's Los Angeles office at the time of the group's move to McDermott Will.
